Alison Dale

My love of still life painting comes from the stability of the subject matter and the calmness of an ordinary object. In our busy oversubscribed lives there is something comforting to me about the quiet beauty a still life evokes. I am especially influenced by the Dutch Masters and in my paintings I try to mirror their techniques with layers of underpainting starting with just tone. 

As the layers evolve the subjects become peacefully alive.
